DHL is hiring a Director of Corporate Public Affairs to join our team in Washington, D.C.You will provide the primary issue management for customs, security and trade policies in the Corporate Public Affairs office in Washington, DC, supporting all four divisions in the Americas.


·Contribute to the appropriate representation of the Group’s position in political processes by monitoring legislative and regulatory actions and positions relevant to the Group and contributing to the content preparation for relevant topics. (Formulate position papers and policy summaries for discussions with political decision-makers, represent the Group in discussion groups, hearings, coalitions, etc.)

·Independently and continuously monitor legislative and regulatory actions relevant to the Group as well as political party and election programs

·Independently contribute to the content preparation for topics relevant to the Group including bi-directional flow of information and analysis through materials designed for either external or internal distribution (opinions, recommendations, decision papers, newsletters, etc.)

·Appropriately represent the Group before relevant trade associations and outside organizations (e.g. implement and participate in specialist events)

·Manage and process relevant policy topics for the Group, focusing on customs and cross border clearance procedures, cargo screening requirements, and trade policies on behalf of the Deutsche Post DHL Group corporate office in Washington, DC

·Observe, analyze, and provide support for legislative policies and procedures relevant to the Group

·Represent the Group before government bodies and relevant industry events

·Anticipate and positively influence decisions that may impact the group by initiating and developing relationships with key influencers in Congress, relevant U.S. government agencies, foreign embassies, intergovernmental organizations, and related trade associations.

·Develop own proposals and recommendations for action as input for political decision-making processes

·Prepare and provide information, produce analyses and interpretations about politically relevant developments to the relevant specialist departments in the Group on various focal points

·Facilitate, prepare for, and staff high-level meetings between senior executives and key stakeholders, including congressional, regulatory, and industry partners.Partner and build coalitions that result in favorable outcomes for the company. 

·Support projects and events that develop and enhance the policy strategy (e.g. DHL Forum)

·Monitor and report out key political developments in the Americas that could potentially impact operations in the region.


·Undergraduate degree (BS/BA) required.Relevant graduate degree preferred.

·6+ years of related experience, with a strong preference for work experience on Capitol Hill, with a relevant Federal regulatory agency, or a related trade association. Superior analytical and problem solving skills as well as ability to grasp new concepts quickly

·A very high degree of commitment and strong sense of responsibility. Ability to work independently and to use own initiative.  

·Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are a must. 

·Ability to speak conversational German or Spanish is desirable but by no means required.

·Must maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity and the ability to function effectively in a team environment.

·Must be a U.S. citizen or national, eligible to work in the U.S. and possess or be able to secure a legal passport for international travel.Occasional domestic and international travel is required.
