Senior Legal Counsel - Labor Relations
DPDHL is hiring a driven and strategic subject matter expert to handle labor relations matters for DHL Express (USA), Inc..This position is open in Chicago, IL and Plantation, FL.You will define and recommend labor relations strategies to the Vice President, Legal and Head of Labor Relations with respect to collective bargaining agreement (CBA) interpretations and the handling of grievances and labor arbitrations to mitigate the company's exposure and helps to drive the overall management of legal matters related to labor relations.
You will provide timely and expert advice to the Labor Relations team with respect to employee discipline and termination under the CBA and collaborates with Labor Relations to provide labor and CBA training to Operations and other related groups.You will be involved in key collective bargaining and dispute resolution negotiations with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and support Labor Relations through active participation in the contract drafting and negotiation process.
You will have expertise and knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations impacting company's operations and labor relations and be a strong leader who is a self-starter and contributes to success of organization's business.You will bring credibility with internal clients and customers.
Provides comprehensive legal services to DHL Express (USA) in labor law; ensures company complies with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations related to labor law.
Analyzes and interprets case law, court reports, and proposed and existing laws, rules, regulations and company policies related to labor law to communicate on how they impact the organization's operations.
Designs and implements legal risk mitigation strategies and policies in labor.
Advises senior and other levels of management and personnel on legal and related risks associated with DPDHL's operations in area of labor; advises business on legal trends and developing areas of law.
Responsible for day-to-day counseling to Labor Relations on labor issues. Also, responsible for helping the business understand substantive concepts as well as their role in ensuring compliance with the CBA and the NLRA.
Investigates and manages issues involving potential violations of the CBA.
Works with VP, Legal to manage all aspects of internal and external legal spend in area of labor with budget level responsibility for same
Maintains a strong relationship with key business stakeholders to meet business needs.
Works with Labor Relations to train the HR, Operations and other related business leaders on the requirements of the CBA and existing laws under the NLRA and other related labor laws;
Identifies and recommends innovative changes for process improvement.
Represents and defends the organization's interests in labor arbitrations and grievances and other adversarial legal proceedings; including retaining and managing external counsel and its handling of complaints and charges together with the related spend.
Provides advice on employment laws, as required.
The required skills you bring to this exciting opportunity are:
Experience with labor unions in the United States, preferably with the United Brotherhood of Teamsters
Undergraduate university degree
Professional Juris Doctorate degree from accredited institution
License to practice law in good standing
