Role description:

Main tasks:

  • Assist in the implementation of a continuous improvement process for processes in the International Operations/Middle Mile area, and particularly Transportation Management
  • Provide support in connection with the development of service-level KPIs and a framework for performance management processes for suppliers and freight forwarders in collaboration with network countries
  •      Assist during the development, coordination and implementation of Middle Mile & Transport Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) and monitor the implementation of these SOPs in network countries
  • Assist in transport-related digitalization projects, such as projects relating to visibility or forecasting, and contribute to them as appropriate with a focus on defining clear OPS concepts and requirements
  • Contribute to reports on project status/progress as well as to project communication; drive decision-making processes for setting up consolidation and transport solutions throughout the entire network in consultation with network partners in order to improve transport performance
  • Contribute to the definition of project targets and project scope, planning and organization


  • Assist in transport network design projects and contribute to them as appropriate, taking account of the costs, deadlines, resources and quality for which you are responsible
  • Contribute to process analyses and to the development and implementation of new solutions for optimizing processes
  • Review and implement, on a largely autonomous basis, defined process standards and monitor the transport network service quality of theeCS European transport network of DHL eCommerce Solutions (DHL eCS)
  • Monitor, analyze and flesh out improvement measures in the European transport network area
  • Contribute to the establishment of full transparency in international transport costs and assist in cost benchmarking work and transport tendering initiatives


  • Maintain relatively limited contact with customers while providing advice and support at specialist and head of department level, in particular with selected country organizations
  • Observe quality standards and comply with DHL eCS standards in connection with international network partners


  • Manage relationships with specialist departments, particularly with DHL eCS countries, other DHL business units and external partner organizations, especially OPS/transport managers
  • Manage service providers, such as freight forwarders, and improve their performance


  • Help drive process improvements in the DHL eCS area
  • Develop service-level KPIs and a framework for performance management processes for suppliers and freight forwarders in collaboration with network countries
  • Ensure compliance with quality and service standards within DHL eCS
  • Apply best practices during process optimization in DHL eCS

Employee leadership:

  • Familiarize junior staff with their duties
  • Advise and instruct employees as needed
  • Assist with projects


  • University degree or an equivalent qualification in logistics/supply chain management or operations research
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience, ideally in the logistics, CEP or freight forwarding industry, preferably in the operational area
  • Thorough understanding of operational processes, particularly transport and terminal handling in the (courier, express and parcel (CEP)) business
  • Highly enthusiastic with very good presentation skills
  • Excellent team player in an international dynamic
  • Knowledge of project and process management
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and PowerBI
  • Ideally, basic mathematical optimization skills (logistics-oriented)
  • Excellent written and spoken English; strong written and verbal communication skills; a further language would be of advantage
  • Level B1 proficiency in German or the willingness to acquire it
